Offensive & Defensive Security

SCADA & Industrial Control System (ICS) Defense

Security for the systems where a bad day means a physical one, assessed without ever risking the process.

The Mandate

In an industrial environment, the worst outcome is not data loss — it is a pump, a breaker, or a valve doing the wrong thing. That constraint changes everything. You cannot fuzz a live PLC the way you fuzz a web app, and anyone who tells you otherwise should be kept away from the plant.

I assess control environments the way a careful adversary would while treating process safety as sacred. Passive analysis, lab replicas, and tightly scoped active testing on authorized windows only. The goal is to find the path from the business network to the physical process before someone hostile does.

Engagement Scope
  • IT/OT segmentation and Purdue-model boundary review
  • Passive network analysis of ICS protocols (Modbus, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, OPC)
  • PLC, RTU, HMI, and historian exposure assessment
  • Remote-access, vendor-link, and jump-host risk review
  • Safety-instrumented-system isolation verification
  • Lab-replica and offline testing for anything that could touch live process
  • OT-aware detection and monitoring design
  • ICS incident-response and manual-fallback playbook development
How I Work

Process safety governs the engagement. Active testing happens only in approved maintenance windows or on lab replicas, with plant engineers in the loop and a stop condition everyone agrees on up front. Most of the real findings come from passive analysis and architecture review, which carry no process risk at all.

Every engagement runs under a signed NDA and, where testing is involved, a Safe Harbor agreement. Legal and ethical, start to finish.

What You Receive
  1. An IT/OT exposure map showing every path from business network to control plane
  2. A segmentation and monitoring blueprint tuned to your protocols and vendors
  3. An ICS-specific incident-response plan including safe manual-operation fallback
Questions
Will testing risk our physical process?+

No. Active testing is restricted to lab replicas or approved maintenance windows with engineering oversight and a hard stop condition. The majority of analysis is passive and carries no process risk.

Do you understand our protocols and vendors?+

Yes — Modbus, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, OPC and the major PLC and HMI vendors. The assessment is built around how your specific equipment actually behaves.
